Marvel Super Heroes 12 – Before and After collage.

Nice collage of the Before and After of the covers. Was terribly crinkled from a small amount of water damage, and reasonably dirty from stacking dirt. Before & After: X-MEN #7

This book has a lot of creases and folds you would associate with a book of this age. It pressed out quite nicely. But what was surprising about this book was on first inspection, on the back cover theres an example of tape pull near the centre, I had also assumed the spots to the top of the cover (beneath “You Know”) had been tape pull as well.

Once I had started cleaning the cover, I was surprised to find it was paper stuck over the top of the cover which came away following some gentle persuading. I guess this was an example of me judging the book by its cover prematurely!

Before & After: Daredevil #1

Having recently just finished this book for a new customer, I had jokingly asked him it had originally belonged to Noah? Most certainly one of the most water damaged books I have worked on. Water damage can be especially to work with as it usually leaves rusty staples and the material fibres near to the staples become very weak and brittle.

However, I was extremely happy with the end product. Being able to bring out the best in a comic is exactly what I strive to do with all of the books I work with, and feel this crackerjack of a book presents itself with a whole new lease of life now.

Before & After: X-MEN #9

The obvious improvement that needed addressing on this issue was the mystery substance on the back cover. Was it mud, chocolate? Who knows? You never know how long something like this had been stuck to the cover, now can it be removed without leaving any damage.

Luckily for this issue, the offending matter was able to removed totally. It has left some slight staining to the paper fibres, but still on the whole I was pleased and feel it presents a lot nicer now than it did before.
